Hey! This is us…
There’s something about a personal guide, someone to hold your hand, a friend, that is simply magical in today’s world.
We’re here to guide you, whether helping you plan your safari or going with you on safari. 14 years into marriage (in 2024!) and 22 years of knowing each other means we do have a tendency to finish each other’s sentences occasionally (you can pull us up on that any time!). We met in Edinburgh and did a fair bit of travelling together around Scotland and Europe, then Kenya called. Wiz made me wait for six months before he decided he’d be interested in moving to Kenya, and then he kitted out our car with all the things you need to drive from UK to Kenya in three months. We had a roof tent and a 1,000 litre water tank (thanks to reading Trek as a kid I am a bit neurotic about driving in remote places without enough water), and a stack of maps. It was the ultimate test because there’s nowhere to run when you’re on a road trip and luckily the biggest contretemps we had was about not buying bacon in Ethiopia. Ooops. After three months on the road we finally got home to Kenya and raced back to Kedong Ranch to Juju’s parents home, where there was tea and cake waiting for us.
Wiz
Wiz is the high-energy brains and passion that we all need in our lives! He is creative and fun, and loves being on safari. His knowledge of animals, landscapes, animals and culture is awesome, but more importantly, he has been known to change a tyre in a mud hole with a small audience of lion not far away. He’s unafraid of challenges, but measured about risk. Wiz grew up in the wilds of Northumberland and has the height to prove it - you can’t be too tall in that part of the world or you’ll get blown over by the wind. He and his brothers spent weekends exploring the valleys of northern England, camping out, and latterly, sailing together. He’s trekked across the arctic, spent lonely nights on the Himalayas, made it to Hong Kong for the 1997 handover, and visited over 30 countries in Africa. When we moved to Kenya, Wiz took on various building projects including a spa at Sasaab Lodge, and upgrades on Ol Jogi. Then he pivoted into cabbage farming with his great friend Jim Foxton which was a roaring success until the price of cabbage dropped like a lead balloon after exceptional rains in Kenya. So then it was into Private Security at Salama Fikira which took Wiz all over the continent of Africa, and the world, including a transit from Singapore to Sri Lanka. Outside of travelling and being on safari, you’ll find Wiz obsessing over cars and rallies, making his renowned pickles (don’t worry you’ll get some on safari!), farming on our smallholding (sheep, pigs, chickens and the like), building stuff, and skiing when he can.
Juju
Juju loves travelling, mostly because she likes to chat to people a LOT. Having studied Social Anthropology at Uni, Juju is fascinated by cultures and traditions, and knows a lot about the tribes of Kenya. She’s also absolutely obsessed by food, and you can see evidence of that in her start up Greenspoon, which she exited from in 2024. She’ll go out of her way to find a random herb or spice, and loves nothing more than the challenge of producing delicious food in remote places.
She was brought up on safari with her step-father Tony Church, who pioneered the first horseback safaris in Kenya. Having had a wild childhood as a missionary kid, chasing zebras on his pony was a favourite pastime and he decided to turn it into a business in the 1970s by selling his prized golf clubs and buying a few nags. In those days you could ride from Nairobi’s outskirts into the Ngong Hills and come across rhino. Sadly that’s not possible any longer, but today Juju’s step-brother Gordie runs the business together with his wife Felicia, and it’s a way to see Africa like no other. Back to Juju - childhood memories of safari prevail, along with adventures like sailing from Mombasa to Pemba, and skiing in the Alps.
Juju will make you feel part of the family as soon as you meet her.
